HTML Authoring - Step 1
|
First things first: Decide what to say with your homepage.
You don't need to be at the computer for this. Just grab a piece of paper and a pen. Jot down your answer to the question, "What do I want my home page to say?" Do you want to tell your life's story? Do you want to talk about an important hobby? While surfing the web have you found great links that you would like to share? Maybe you want to give your children a place to express themselves for the world to see, something like a story or painting hung on the bulletin board outside their classroom, only on a much grander scale.

HTML Authoring - Step 2

Next: Decide how you want to design your homepage.
You can design your home page in a number of ways. Perhaps you will decide to use a so-called WISIWYG (What you see is what you get) HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) page editing program, such as Home Page by File Maker, Inc., or Adobe Page Mill. Or if you are really ambitious, you can master HTML and use a simple text editor to generate your code.
On the other hand, if you want to get your page up with a minimum of learning time, you might consider the "fill-in-the-blanks" page generation utilities offered by such free home page hosts as Tripod, Geocities, Angelfire, and others. If you wanted to use the generated page in your Enter.Net free home page, you could save the generated Geocities or Tripod page to your hard drive as Source, and upload it to Enter.Net using an ftp (file transfer protocol) utility. Then you would have a page on Geocities or another host in addition to your Enter.Net page.
